Stash Decaf English Breakfast
Our review
★ ★ ★ ½
Stash Decaf English Breakfast tea is good option for the occasional decaf tea drinker with a one-cup teacup.
From Stash
What does Stash have to say about their tea?
For our decaffeinated English Breakfast, we have used a decaffeination process using a completely natural European process that removes 99.5% of the caffeine while retaining all the flavor, color and aroma of the tea. The result is a strong, rich tea. It may be enjoyed with milk or lemon and makes an exceptional iced tea. This flavorful tea is perfect to drink any time of the day.
In the mug
This tea grew on me a little as I worked my way through the box.
A teabag contains 2g of tea, which Stash recommends for 240ml (8 fl oz) of water. I like to drink tea by the mugfull, which I can do with a single bag of Barry's Decaf Yorkshire Decaf (~3.125g), so I started using two teabags to get a good steep.
That means that one box is good for 9 mugs of tea, which makes it more expensive than some of our favourites
How is Stash Decaf English Breakfast decaffeinated?
I got in touch with Stash and within two minutes their lightning-fast customer service team confirmed that they use Carbon Dioxide to decaffeinate their tea:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Our decaf teas are decaffeinated using a chemical-free CO2 process. It ensures that the tea is decaffeinated very gently, preserving the majority of the tea’s flavor.
All of our black, green and white teas are decaffeinated using carbon dioxide, the same compound that plants breathe in daily. This process is known as effervescent decaffeination.
Our decaffeination process does not employ harmful chemicals and the CO2 is recycled afterwards. This method is considered natural and removes most of the caffeine.
Please feel free to let us know if there is anything further we can do to assist you.

On the shelf
The box is plastic-free and contains 18 teabags. The teabags themselves contain no plastic, which is great to see, but they are individually-wrapped.
The tea is also available to order from Stash's website as 100g of loose leaves, which is a good option for anyone looking to reduce their use of packaging.
