Taylors of Harrogate Decaffeinated Breakfast Tea

Our review
★ ★ ★ ½
From the makers of Yorkshire Decaf, Taylors of Harrogate Decaffeinated Breakfast Tea offers a bagged, CO2-decaffeinated entry to their decaf tea roster. While it doesn't exactly pack a punch, it tastes light and balanced. Given that the bags are individually wrapped and the small-ish teabag, this is a good tea to try for the occasional decaf tea drinker with a medium-sized mug.
From Taylors of Harrogate
We source seriously flavour-packed teas from the Rift Valley in south-western Kenya, then gently decaffeinate the blend using a natural process. It keeps the character bright and refreshing - perfect for breakfast and throughout the day.
In the mug
Each bag contains 2.5g of tea, compared with 3.125g in Yorkshire Decaf and Thompson's Decaf. So unless your cup is particularly small, give this tea a full 5-minute steep.
How is Taylors of Harrogate Decaffeinated Breakfast tea decaffeinated?
According to Taylors, this tea uses Carbon Dioxide to clear away most of the caffeine:
We start with really good teas, hand picking the very best Kenyan teas from east of the Rift Valley – a region whose flavours are particularly well suited to decaffeination. [...] And we decaffeinate using natural carbon dioxide, which takes away the caffeine gently in a way that doesn’t compromise the tea leaves themselves.
On the shelf
The 20-bag box I picked up is mostly plastic-free apart from what appears to be plastic lining the individually-wrapped teabags.
Taylors of Harrowgate have good reach with their worldwide distribution partners, and I find in Canada that this tea is easier to find than a number of other brands from the UK and Ireland.
